• MU, Pinkel working on contract extension

    Missouri football spokesman Chad Moller confirmed that an extension agreement is being finalized between athletic department officials and eighth-year coach Gary Pinkel. The amount is not yet known, but it is expected to be significantly higher than the five-year, $1.85 million agreement Pinkel signed last December. Pinkel had been considered a possibility for the vacant Washington job.

Mission trip changes women's fair-trade mission

Jaylyn Salmons, an art minor at Mizzou, helps set up a window display Wednesday morning at the new Fair Trade store opening in downtown Columbia. The non-profit store, Mustard Seed, is associated with the ministry of Karis Community Church and opened in October.

Four Columbia women opened a store downtown to offer alternative retail shopping, but a trip to Uganda changed the way they saw their position.

Firearms hunters expected to harvest 213,000 deer

The state's top deer biologist expects this firearms deer season to match 2007 numbers before the season ends next week. Over opening weekend, numbers of doe harvested were up by 5,000, while the buck total was down by 8,000.

Robert M. White II, renowned journalist, dies

White, who served as editor, publisher and president of the Mexico Ledger and worked to promote press freedom, died Thursday at a Columbia hospital.
