COLUMBIA — Missouri’s Republican Majority Leader Steven Tilley will be in Columbia on Friday to stump for GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani to Columbia’s Pachyderm Club.

The Pachyderm Club will convene at noon at Jack’s Gourmet Restaurant on Business Loop 70. Tilley, who represents Perryville, made his endorsement of Giuliani public in October. He is currently state co-chair of the Giuliani campaign with U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, a Republican from Cape Girardeau.

The club has already had campaign representatives speak on behalf of GOP nominee hopefuls Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney and former candidate Fred Thompson.

Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, has adopted a strategy of bypassing earlier presidential contests to concentrate on the Feb. 5 race, which has more than 20 primaries, including one in Missouri.

Columbia’s Pachyderm Club was founded in 1967 as a place to meet with friends and discuss politics. Pachyderms were founded with strong ties to the Republican Party. Although the club is rooted in Republican ideals, members do not endorse a specific candidate for office and makes time to all who wish to speak, according to the club Web site. Cost for the event is a $7 full-buffet fee.
