Not-so-original names for our furry friends

Friday, March 7, 2008 | 3:00 p.m. CST; updated 1:36 p.m. CDT, Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Think you have an original name for your new dog or cat? Probably not.

We looked at 5,000 names of pets registered in Columbia with the Boone County Health Department and found dogs named Austin Powers, Bark McGuire, Rufus Kosmiski and Arnold Schwartzenpuppy.

We found a kitten named Admiral Hopps, a puppy called Mr. President and cats named Psychopath, Chandler Denninghoff and Furball Winberg.

On the other hand, many owners pick common names for their pets. These are among the most popular for cats and dogs in Columbia.
