Me-first mentality plagues Columbia Public Schools

Thanks for your coverage of late, like “Large numbers turn out for school board meeting.” The public deserves to know, even if they may not be smart enough or diligent enough to know what to do with the information.

From the top, Phyllis Chase, down all the way to the general public, it stands out why Columbia Public Schools are no longer what they were years ago: Self-centeredness.

Just like each special interest person or group at the board meeting, “What’s in it for me” permeates from top to bottom. And, of course, the only way for us to keep all our individual pet projects is to spend more of everyone’s money. If not, then we need to cut YOUR pet, but not mine! I DESERVE my entitlements, such as free busing, etc. Talk is cheap, but only because it can distract from action. The administration is exactly what Columbians have asked for, “people who think like me, for my self-interest.”
