COLUMBIA — An early morning crash in Boone County on Friday left a 24-year-old Sturgeon man dead, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Travis L. Taft was traveling north on U.S. 63 near Missouri 22 when his vehicle, a 2001 GMC, ran off the side of the road at about 6:25 a.m. Friday, according to the report. Taft then overcorrected and his vehicle skidded, overturned and struck a highway sign, according to the report.

Taft, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead by Randolph County Coroner Gerald Luntsford at 6:38 a.m., according to the report.
