COLUMBIA — As part of Columbia’s ongoing visioning process, a Vision and Implementation Open House is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The open house, which will be held at the Activity and Recreation Center, 1701 W. Ash St., is designed to accommodate “drop-in” participants by letting them offer feedback on the process, according to a news release from the city of Columbia.
A city visioning committee approved a final plan in December 2007 outlining goals and priorities for Columbia’s future development. The plan was accepted by the City Council on Feb. 4.
Visioning revealed a common desire for Columbia to be a connected, informed, engaged community, City Manager Bill Watkins said in the release.
“The vision report already guides city decision-making,” Watkins said. “Now, we need to reconnect with visioning participants and the public at large, have them review the draft implementation report, gather input on a visioning commission and seek communitywide effort support for turning vision goals into actions.”
The open house will offer immediate feedback opportunities through on-site electronic surveys, conversation stations and periodic presentations.
After each presentation, those who attend the session will be able to offer feedback and ask questions.
A second event, a communitywide visioning celebration, is tentatively planned to coincide with the Twilight Festival on Sept. 4, at the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts, 203 S. Ninth St. This event will celebrate the current visioning efforts with music and entertainment, as well as invite public engagement and stimulate conversations about where to go from here, the news release said.
The celebration is also an opportunity to present new ideas for communitywide collaboration and to identify the public-private partnerships needed to address the more complex vision goals.
