Saturday, August 23, 2008 | 2:47 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA - Police are seeking two men who broke into a northeast Columbia home early Saturday morning, a Columbia Police Department news release said.

At around 5:45 a.m., two men forced their way into a home in the 1200 block of Carol Drive and stole some property, the release said.

At about 6:10 a.m., a 15-year-old female resident of the house reported the burglary. She told police that she, along with a 7-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, was sleeping in the house when the men broke in.

She said that one of the men entered the room in which she had been sleeping and appeared to be looking for property to steal. The men searched the house and left with a small amount of property, the release said.

A short time later, the victims fled the home and went to a neighbor's house to call the police. None of the victims was injured during the incident.

At 11 a.m., police were not available to comment on the investigation.

The suspects are described as two males, one of which was wearing a black mask and white gloves or socks on his hands.

Anyone with information should call police at 874-7652.

If one(or more)of these thugs breaks into my home while I'm there in the middle of the night, that will be one (or more) less Columbia will have to worry about. I consider myself to be pretty liberal (socially anyway) but that's one thing I won't be on, I have the means to protect myself and if placed in that situation I will not hesitate. The only thing that I really agreed with Matt Blunt on protecting me, if I'm forced to protect myself. If you are going to hope the police can protect you at best you will be disappointed at worst you will be dead.

Amen Eric Cox and that is how it should be. This crime wave is totally out of control as of late and citizens must stand up and say something even if it is only on the local Blogs, forum boards, contact your local councilman, posting on here or even over the Trib Talk phone in number they provide it all sends a message that something has to be done. Citizens as a whole need to stand up.
