JEFFERSON CITY — Gubernatorial candidate Kenny Hulshof has finally received a statement of support from his defeated Republican primary opponent.

Treasurer Sarah Steelman issued a written statement Tuesday praising the Republican presidential ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palin for setting a tone of change in the party.

Without being specific, Steelman noted that many of the issues McCain supports also were issues in her hard-fought primary against Hulshof.

Steelman's statement said she looks forward to supporting McCain and Palin, in addition to Hulshof and other Missouri Republicans, on issues that will make a difference to families.

Hulshof is facing Democrat Jay Nixon in the November general election.
