The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a man in connection with an attack on a 26-year-old woman on Monday. Melvin A. Warrick, 31, has been charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree assault, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.

Deputies responded shortly after 2 a.m. Monday to the 2200 block of Slick Rock Drive and were informed that a man had snuck into the victim’s apartment and attacked her as she prepared to enter the shower, according to the release. The victim, whom deputies say was Warrick’s ex-girlfriend, suffered minor injuries in the attack.

Warrick has numerous arrests for assault and traffic offenses dating back to 1996, according to the release. He was last known to be living on Madison Avenue and on Park Avenue in Columbia.

Anyone with information about Warrick’s whereabouts is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 875-8477. Callers may remain anonymous.
