Southeast Mo. man accused of killing wife

PORTAGEVILLE — A southeast Missouri man is accused in the shooting death of his wife.

Jon Patrick Ellington is jailed on $1 million bond and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Carolyn Ellington.

The New Madrid County Sheriff's Department was called to the family home at 5:50 a.m. Saturday. Carolyn Ellington had been shot in the head. She was flown to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn., where she later died.

Authorities were still trying to determine a motive.
