DE SOTO — A 24-year-old eastern Missouri woman accused in the beating death of a child will have her trial in Jefferson County.

Brandy Mabery of De Soto is charged with felony abuse of a child resulting in death, along with armed criminal action. The decision to keep the trial in Jefferson County was reached Thursday following a preliminary hearing.

Prosecutors say that in July, Mabery repeatedly struck her boyfriend's 2-year-old son, Stacy Tolbert-Wyatt, until he went into cardiac arrest. The father is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Mabery remains jailed on a $1 million cash-only bond. Formal arraignment will be later this year.
