COLUMBIA — Post offices in the Columbia area will close early Wednesday, and city trash pickup will be postponed one day Thursday and Friday.

The main post office downtown and the mall station will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Commerce Bank station will close at noon, said Sandy Bolles, a manger of customer service at Columbia United States Postal Service.  Columbia post offices will be closed on Christmas Day.

All retail and mail delivery operations will resume Friday.

According to the city's Department of Public Works, trash and recycling collection is delayed one day after a holiday for the remainder of the week.
