Memorial service for man who fell in Missouri

ST. LOUIS — A memorial service was planned Saturday for John-Paul Forget, Chesterfield man who fell into the Missouri River earlier this month.

The Missouri State Water Patrol has been unable to find Forget’s body yet, because of  ice on the river.

The 20-year-old was involved in a minor accident Dec. 16 on Interstate 70 about 15 miles west of Columbia.

He and his passengers were walking off the bridge when Forget apparently tried to jump out of the way of an oncoming tractor trailer.

A spokesman with the Missouri Water Patrol says it’s unclear whether Forget leapt directly off the bridge, or tried to get up on the sides and slipped. Conditions that night were icy.

The memorial service for Forget was to be held at 11 a.m. at St. Alban Roe Catholic Church in Wildwood.

Forget was a sophomore at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan.
