INDEPENDENCE — Police have arrested the driver of a BMW after they say he caused a fatal wreck while racing on Interstate 70.

Witnesses told police that the red BMW was racing another vehicle Saturday evening when the BMW driver appeared to lose control and hit a silver Ford pickup. The pickup left the highway and overturned, ejecting the driver. The truck's driver was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

There were no other injuries.

The BMW driver remains in custody until he is charged by the Jackson County prosecutor's office.
