Columbia women win 16th straight game

COLUMBIA – The Columbia Lady Cougars extended their winning streak to 16 games tonight with a 59-45 win over American Midwest Conference rival McKendree (Ill.) University. 

The Lady Cougars, ranked No. 10 in the latest NAIA top 25 poll, are now 18-1 on the season and 5-0 in conference play.  McKendree is 9-7 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Columbia found itself down  by as many as seven before coming back to tie the score at 16 midway through the first half.  Whitney Widaman’s 12 first-half points helped Columbia  take a 31-20 halftime lead. 

Rachel Oswald led Columbia with 21 points and four steals. Widaman finished with 14 points.

The Lady Cougars play again Thursday when they travel to Fulton to take on AMC foe William Woods University. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
