TULSA— A federal judge has sentenced a Missouri man to nearly 12 years in prison for traveling to Oklahoma in an attempt to have sex with a 3-year-old child.

Thirty-three-year-old Jeffrey Cornell Lewis was given a prison term of 11 years and eight months on Thursday and was ordered to be under court supervision for seven years after he is released from custody. Lewis pleaded guilty Oct. 17.

The Joplin resident admitted he asked a northeast Oklahoma woman he'd been communicating with to bring her 3-year-old daughter to a Miami, Okla., hotel for a July 27 meeting.

Prosecutors say Lewis didn't know the woman had notified law enforcement authorities when he expressed an interest in having sex with that child and the woman's 13-year-old daughter.

Lewis was arrested after he registered at the motel and paid for a room.
