Three Missouri residents in custody after car chase

MEMPHIS, Mo. — Three Missouri residents face several charges after a lengthy car chase and manhunt that began in rural northeast Missouri, went into Iowa and ended back in Missouri.

In custody are 35-year-old Kenneth Thompson of Kirksville and 23-year-old Christopher Armstrong and 27-year-old Michelle Brand, both of Memphis.

The ordeal began before 9 a.m. Thursday when a car was reported stolen in Queen City. A Scotland County deputy spotted the car near Memphis and began a chase. Authorities say the suspects fired shots at the deputy.

The car crossed into Iowa, then back into Missouri, where authorities lost sight of it.

It was found Thursday evening, abandoned in a field. Thompson was found nearby and arrested. The other two suspects were captured later, walking along a road.
