JACKSON — A southeast Missouri teenager faces sentencing in April after pleading guilty to raping an 80-year-old woman after forcing his way into her home.

Seventeen-year-old Mitchell West of Sikeston entered the plea Tuesday.

The crime occurred Nov. 30 in Cape Girardeau. In addition to raping the woman, West admitted stealing two of her credit cards. He also pleaded guilty to burglary and stealing charges.

He told the judge he broke into the same home two weeks later, but the victim wasn't there. A neighbor heard glass break and police captured West after a brief foot chase.

Prosecutor Morley Swingle says the victim required surgery after the attack. He is seeking a 30-year sentence.
