BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. — The Kansas City-area's Great American Barbecue Festival is moving to a larger location for this year's event.

In its fifth year, the competitive barbecue event during Memorial Day weekend will be held at the Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone in Bonner Springs.

Last year it was at The Woodlands Race Park in Kansas City, Kan.

Executive Director Tracy Satterfield says the festival will be positioned for growth with 40 acres of festival grounds and parking.

The festival expects 275 cooking teams vying for $73,000 in prize money during the three-day event.

About 50,000 people are expected to attend the contest, listen to 18 hours of live music and participate in competitive eating contests and barbecue samplings.
