COLUMBIA — An overnight burglary left a Columbia convenience store missing cigarettes, beer and cash.
The Kwik Store, 5781 E. St. Charles Road, was broken into between midnight and 6 a.m. Thursday while the store was closed, said Sgt. Micheal Perkins of the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
Multiple cases of beer, several cartons of cigarettes and a safe containing an undisclosed amount of money were stolen. Perkins said that the Sheriff's Department does not disclose dollar amounts because the police can use that information to verify whether a tip about the case is credible or not.
"Typically only someone who was involved in it or that knows someone who was involved would have that kind of information," Perkins said.
Although he declined to give specifics, store manager Kenny Pateo said that the loss of merchandise was extensive. "We're talking about a lot of damage here," he said.
Police were unable to recover any security footage.
"(The perpetrators) broke the whole security system," Pateo said.
