Southeast Missouri to name new basketball coach

Tuesday, March 10, 2009 | 11:26 a.m. CDT

CAPE GIRARDEAU — A news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday for the introduction of the new men's basketball coach at Southeast Missouri State University.

New athletic director John Shafer will make the announcement, as the decision was his alone. There were no finalists named, and no committee was involved.

The new coach will take over a program that has hit bottom. The Red Hawks were 3-27 this season, were winless in the Ohio Valley Conference and lost their last 19 games. The previous coach, Scott Edgar, was removed for alleged NCAA rules violations. The university bought out the remainder of his contract.
