KANSAS CITY — An effort to nab Johns who seek out underage prostitutes has led to federal charges against an active duty Naval recruiter and three others.

Acting U.S. Attorney Matt Whitworth announced Tuesday that grand jurors have indicted 32-year-old Shane Allan Childers of Overland Park, Kan., who allegedly was wearing part of his uniform when he was arrested.

Also indicted Tuesday was 33-year-old Christopher M. Cockrell of Armory, Miss., 40-year-old Steven C. Albers, of Kansas City, and Richard J. Oflyng of Ottawa, Kan.

The men are charged with the attempted commercial sex trafficking of a child and with using the Internet and telephone to attempt to induce a child to engage in prostitution.

Childers and Cockrell also face an additional count of traveling across state lines for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct.
