MU's Henderson gets at-large bid to national wrestling tournament

Thursday, March 12, 2009 | 12:01 a.m. CDT

Missouri wrestler Dorian Henderson was awarded one of 52 at-large bids for the NCAA wrestling championships.

The redshirt freshman finished the season at 20-13 but struggled in the Big 12 Conference tournament, finishing fifth without a victory in the 184-pound division.

With Henderson, the Tigers will send eight wrestlers to the championships, which ties a Missouri record set in 2007. That year, the Tigers finished third in the nation, another Missouri record.

Henderson joins teammates Todd Schavrien, Marcus Hoehn, Michael Chandler, Nicholas Marable, Raymond Jordan, Maxwell Askren and Mark Ellis, who all qualified at the Big 12 tournament.

The championships will take place March 19-21 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
