COLUMBIA – A 26-year-old male was arrested Monday night on suspicion of hitting a 17-year-old male and two parked cars with his Buick and fleeing the scene, according to Detective Tom O'Sullivan of the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies responded to a call at about 9 p.m. in the 300 block of East Catherine, where gunshots had been reported. O’Sullivan said the incident involved about 50 people but that no one claimed to have seen a gun or shooter.

Ricardo Thompson, of St. Louis, Ill., told deputies he was at Rock Bridge Estates visiting a friend when shots were fired toward him, according to a news release issued by the Boone County Sheriff's Department.  Upon leaving the area, Thompson said, he was confronted by a large group of people, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into two parked cars.

No gun or casings have been found, but several witnesses heard what they thought were gunshots, O’Sullivan said.

The man struck by Thompson’s vehicle sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention, O'Sullivan said.  No other injuries were reported.

Thompson was detained a short time after the incident and was later arrested on suspicion of one count of assault and two felony counts of leaving the scene. Thompson also had an outstanding warrant on suspicion of failure to appear on a trespassing charge, the release stated.

The suspect was released after posting a $13,500 bond, O’Sullivan said.
