ST. LOUIS — A former executive with Brown Shoe Co. and a business associate are accused of defrauding the company of $300,000.

U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway on Friday announced federal indictments against 44-year-old Christopher Gray and 52-year-old John Riley. Both are accused of mail fraud.

Gray was director of corporate facilities for Clayton-based Brown Shoe, whose headquarters is in St. Louis. Riley was part owner of Interior Systems Contracting, which provided interior construction and renovation of Brown Shoe office space.

Hanaway says Riley inflated invoices by about $300,000, with much of the inflated money used to renovate Gray's St. Louis County home.

Brown Shoe says it is disappointed in the alleged actions and is cooperating with authorities.
