LETTER: Stand up to people who love guns

Thursday, March 26, 2009 | 2:53 p.m. CDT; updated 5:16 p.m. CDT, Thursday, March 26, 2009

There is something wrong with people who love guns. Killing is not a good thing for our society. Sooner or later we are going to have to stand up to these people — the sooner the better.

Yes, it's much wiser to assume that the police will always be there to protect you. They do spend the vast majority of their time preventing and stopping crimes rather than documenting and solving them, right? That says a lot about their ability to protect you.

What "kind of people" are you referring to Craig? Those who use guns to commit crimes? I certainly agree with you there. But if you are talking about "just" people who own guns, then it sounds like you need to overcome your fear of guns. Go find a friend with a couple rifles or pistols and head to a target range or private property, let loose a few rounds (with proper protection and instruction of course), and you might change your mind about guns.
