AFFTON — A suburban St. Louis cemetery worker is recovering after falling into a grave and becoming trapped.

It happened Tuesday morning at Our Redeemer Cemetery in Affton. The man's name was not released.

Authorities said the man suffered a back injury in the fall and couldn't get out on his own. Rescue workers were able to free him after about an hour.

The man was taken to a hospital, but his condition was not immediately known. However, he was conscious and alert as he was being lifted from the grave.
