HOUSE SPRINGS — A St. Louis-area man faces charges of assault, unlawful use of a weapon and felonious restraint after allegedly holding four people hostage and shooting one of them.

It happened Monday morning in House Springs. Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer said 36-year-old William Weitzel became upset because his former girlfriend was with another man.

Boyer said Weitzel entered her home, shot the man in the hand and torso and held both at gunpoint for about two hours before Weitzel reportedly called his parents.

Boyer said that after Weitzel's father tried to take away the gun, Weitzel held his parents hostage, too. Weitzel eventually called 911 and turned himself in.

He is jailed on $250,000 bond.

The shooting victim is in stable condition.
