LETTER: Hoppe has dedication, experience needed for City Council

I am writing to support the re-election of Barbara Hoppe for City Council. Barbara is one of the hardest working people I know. In addition to a full-time job, she spends 20 to 30 hours a week meeting with people in her ward, reading extensively to inform herself about city issues and working with city officials.

Barbara's opponent has no track record of community service in areas such as Neighborhood Watch programs, neighborhood associations, the Columbia Visioning process, etc. It is necessary to have knowledge and experience in these areas to be a good council member. Barbara has extensive experience in all these areas. While her opponent may be a nice guy, it takes more than being a nice guy to be a good councilman. We know he is supported by the development community and will likely serve their interests, but will he have the commitment and dedication to serve the interests of the people of the Sixth Ward and Columbia as a whole?

Barbara has a proven track record. She deserves to be re-elected.
