WILLARD — A southwest Missouri baby sitter has been bound over for trial in the death of a 9-month-old boy.

Fifty-three-year-old Brenda Jean Caringer of Willard on Tuesday waived her right to a preliminary hearing and remained in the Greene County Jail on $250,000 bond. She was scheduled for arraignment April 10 on a second-degree murder charge.

Prosecutors also filed an alternative charge of child abuse resulting in death. Both crimes carry sentences of 10 to 30 years in prison.

Caringer turned herself into Willard police on Feb. 25 after she was charged in the Jan. 6 death of Lucas Theede-Bennett. An autopsy showed the baby suffered hemorrhages, a skull fracture and other injuries.
