Man runs away from courtroom

POTOSI — An eastern Missouri man could face additional charges after running away from the courtroom.

The incident began Monday when Washington County Circuit Judge Sandy Martinez called Dustin Fernow's case on a probation violation. Fernow was on probation for burglary.

Authorities discovered Fernow wasn't there, and the judge issued an arrest warrant.

Prosecutor John Rupp says Fernow eventually showed up on his own and was detained, but not handcuffed, in a jury room until his case was called.

Suddenly, authorities say, Fernow opened the door and took off running through the courtroom. About 10 minutes later, a sheriff's investigator found the suspect hiding under a bridge two blocks away.

Fernow is jailed without bond as Rupp weighs charges.
