SPRINGFIELD — A former southwestern Missouri doctor has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for trying to recruit a patient to kill her ex-husband.

Esther Wadley, 40, was sentenced on Friday after being convicted of conspiring to kill Joshua Millager in December, said Robert George, Lawrence County prosecutor,.

The former patient, Paul Bell, testified that Wadley approached him in October about the planned slaying. He agreed but instead contacted the FBI.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol worked with Bell to record several phone calls with Wadley and arranged a meeting with a trooper posing as a hit man.

Wadley also was sentenced in March to two years in prison for violating her probation on earlier drug charges.
