WINFIELD — Aldermen in the eastern Missouri town of Winfield have postponed a decision on the selection of a new mayor. A decision is now expected at a meeting on May 11.
Longtime Mayor Harry Stonebraker died in March, but it was too late to remove his name from the April 7 ballot. He was reelected with 90 percent of the vote, leaving it to aldermen to appoint a mayor to a one-year term until a special election can take place next April.
Until a decision is made, board President Larry Cudney will serve as acting mayor.
Winfield is about 50 miles northwest of St. Louis.
