Child fatality review board to look at swing set death

POPLAR BLUFF — A child fatality review board will convene next week to look into the death of a southeast Missouri child killed when an unfinished wooden swing set collapsed on him.

Butler County Coroner Jim Akers said 7-year-old Cobbie Bond of Fisk died Sunday as the result of an accidental head injury. Akers said the review board is not aimed at assigning guilt, but to determine if anything can be learned to help prevent future child deaths.

Members of the board will include representatives from the Butler County Health Department, Coroner's Office and other agencies.

Akers said Cobbie and two older brothers were playing on the swing set when a crossbeam cracked, causing the set to collapse.
