COLUMBIA – The Boone County Sheriff's Department arrested a man after responding to a disturbance with a weapon complaint at approximately 6:54 p.m. Saturday in the 7400 block of Moberly Drive, according to a news release from the department.

The sheriff's department gave this account of the incident: People arrived at a home to visit individuals there. Outside of the home, Ronald Gaston, 69, of Columbia confronted the visitors, telling them to leave. Gaston then produced a fixed blade, fillet-style knife and waved it at the individuals, including two children in the area.

According to the sheriff's department, Gaston then approached a person and attempted to stab him, although the department says no one was injured.

The individuals involved knew each other, the release states.

According to the release, Gaston was arrested on two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
