The Stephens softball team lost 5-2 against William Woods in its second game Friday at the American Midwest Conference tournament in Jefferson City.

The day started off well for the Stars, defeating Illinois-Springfield 4-0 in it's tournament opener. Joni Ahern threw a complete game shutout for the Stars. Ahern also had two hits and an RBI.

After the win, the Stars had the task of facing No. 1 seeded William Woods.

Megan Bote of William Woods shut down the Stars (4-29), giving up only four hits and two unearned runs.

The Stars move on the double elimination tournament to face Williams Baptist at 9 a.m. Saturday at William Woods' Owls Field in Fulton.
