KANSAS CITY — A portion of Interstate 35 in downtown Kansas City was closed for almost two hours Tuesday after a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a bicyclist.
Police say the cyclist was hit around 4:30 a.m., forcing them to close the northbound lanes between the downtown loop and the Missouri River.
Police Sgt. Jim Fuller told reporters that a truck driver returned to the scene and said he may have been involved in the accident. Officers are continuing to investigate.
The interstate reopened by 6:30 a.m. but traffic was expected to be backed up for some time.
