TULSA, Okla. — An Oklahoma man has been killed in Missouri in a head-on collision with a car being driven by a man fleeing police.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said 40-year-old Joe Nowlin of Vinita and the suspect died in the collision about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 71 near Butler.

Troopers said Nowlin was driving northbound when a car driven by 26-year-old Nicholas Schilling of Belton crossed the median and collided with Nowlin's pickup truck.

The patrol said the chase began when police in Belton tried to stop Schilling and arrest him in connection with an assault case.

Butler is about 65 miles south of the Kansas City metro area.
