Division of Fire Safety keeps tabs on carnival rides

Friday, June 5, 2009 | 10:25 a.m. CDT

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Division of Fire Safety has been conducting spot checks of rides at carnivals and amusement parks.

The spot checks are in addition to annual inspections done by the state to make sure amusement park rides are mechanically sound.

A spokesman for the Missouri Department of Public Safety says the extra inspections have not turned up any significant problems.

Amusement park rides must display a permit indicating the equipment has passed the annual inspection.
