Firecracker blows off KC teen's fingertip

KANSAS CITY — A Kansas City teen has lost a fingertip in a weekend firecracker explosion.

The Kansas City Star reported on its Web site that the 17-year-old told police he was celebrating with friends because the mother of one of his friends had gotten a job.

He couldn't tell whether the M80 firecracker he tried to light had ignited, so he continued holding it and it blew up.

A police report said that the teen was missing a fingertip and "another finger had bent sideways."
