COLUMBIA — A structure fire at 7101 Raylea Lane left one person dead Wednesday morning.

The victim's name has not been released.

Fire crews arriving at the home in rural Boone County found the man dead inside the living room area, The Associated Press reported. A dog also died.

Division Chief Gale Blomenkamp says the the man lived alone. He says the man repeatedly told 911 operators that he couldn't get out and his legs didn't work.

The fire's cause has not been determined.

Already through May of this year, 771 residential fire (non-arson) fatalities have been recorded by the U.S. Fire Administration, 36 of them in Missouri.

The Missourian is pursuing this story and will have more details as soon as they become available.
