SPRINGFIELD — Gov. Jay Nixon is preparing to sign legislation requiring the state to award contracts for license offices through a competitive bidding process.
The state first began seeking bids under former Gov. Matt Blunt for some of its offices that handle vehicle and driver's licenses and collect vehicle sales taxes.
Nixon announced when he took office in January that all of the license office contracts would be bid.
The legislation puts that requirement into state law.
Nixon scheduled a signing ceremony Wednesday at one of the Springfield license offices that already has been awarded under a competitive bid.
