LIBERTY — A reward fund has increased for tips leading to the arrest of people responsible for vandalizing a historic cemetery in Liberty.

The Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers announced Thursday an additional $500 donation increases the possible reward for tips to $4,000.

Liberty police said vandals toppled and broke 176 headstones at the Fairview Cemetery sometime between June 18 and June 20. Some of the damaged markers dated to the 1800s.

Estimates are that it will cost between $100,000 to $500,000 to fix the damage, but officials said some of the older headstones likely can't be repaired.
