JEFFERSON CITY — A Jefferson City man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of another man last September.

Stephen L. Cook, 49, also was found guilty Thursday of armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Cook shot 33-year-old Cornelius Williams of Jefferson City on Sept. 5 while the two were talking in a parking lot.

Cook testified that he was trying to hand a gun to Williams and it accidentally went off.

But numerous witnesses testified that they saw Cook pull out the gun and shoot Williams, and then drive away.

Sentencing was scheduled for Aug. 10.
