STEELVILLE — A Columbia man has died after jumping off a cliff and striking his head in eastern Missouri's Crawford County.

The Missouri State Water Patrol said in a news release that 25-year-old Garrick Holmquest landed Saturday afternoon in about 6 feet of water in Huzzah Creek. Bystanders pulled him from the water.

He was taken to St. John's Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur but did not survive.

An autopsy will be performed to determine a cause of death.
