Part of Interstate 64 to close Tuesday for Obama visit

Monday, July 13, 2009 | 11:54 a.m. CDT

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis officials said traffic moved well throughout St. Louis over the weekend despite a changing list of street closings.

But St. Louis streets director Todd Waelterman has urged that drivers have patience Tuesday night, when President Obama's visit is to close part of Interstate 64 at 5 p.m.

Waelterman said the closing could cause backups on Interstates 55 and 44. He urged drivers to look out for tourists on foot, who will be taking in the sights and may not be paying attention to traffic.

The city is to close I-64 between the Poplar Street Bridge and 14th Street starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
