Kansas Navy recruiter admits role in sex sting

KANSAS CITY — A 32-year-old Navy recruiter from Kansas pleaded guilty to attempted human trafficking for trying to arrange a sexual encounter with what he thought was an 11-year-old girl.

Shane Allan Sanders of Olathe entered the plea Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City. He faces 15 years to life in prison.

The arrest stemmed from a sting by several law enforcement agencies in the Kansas City area that produced seven indictments.

Sanders admitted using a government equipment at the Armed Forces Recruiting Station in Lenexa, Kan., to respond in March to a Craigslist ad offering "little girls." He was arrested after showing up in uniform at a residence and paying an undercover officer $60 to have sex with the child.
