ST. JOSEPH — A Buchanan County woman has been found guilty of receiving two stolen monkeys last year.

A jury on Wednesday convicted Lisa A. Shinkle, of Agency, of two counts of felony receiving stolen property.

Prosecutors said Shinkle and her husband, Michael K. Shinkle, were given two pigtailed macaque monkeys that had been stolen from a Jackson County sanctuary in 2007. The two monkeys, named Nicholas and Abby, were recovered in September.

The prosecution said the monkeys were taken from the sanctuary by Cathy M. Montes of Kansas City. Charges against Montes were dropped last fall after she was ordered to pay the sanctuary owner restitution.

Michael Shinkle's trial on the same charges is scheduled for Aug. 4.
