JEFFERSON CITY — An overnight power outage temporarily shut down Missouri's data center and knocked the state's Web sites off line.

Office of Administration spokeswoman Lori Simms said the power outage occurred around midnight, and state technology workers finished restoring the computer center around 8 a.m. Friday. She said officials are looking into the cause.

The outage meant people were not able to view government Web sites. But Simms said she had not heard of other effects on state services or operations. The Highway Patrol operates on a separate computer system.
