COLUMBIA — Visitation and memorial services for former Columbia elementary school principal and School Board member Rosie Tippin are scheduled for early August.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at West Boulevard Elementary School, 319 N. West Blvd., said Michelle Baumstark, a spokeswoman for the Columbia School District.

A memorial service is to take place at 11 a.m. Aug. 8 at Calvary Baptist Church, 606 Ridgeway Ave.

Tippin, 72, died Monday night following a lengthy illness. She began her career in Columbia as a reading specialist at West Boulevard Elementary School. After that, she ran her own preschool. She then became a part-time assistant principal at Russell Boulevard Elementary School before serving as principal at West Boulevard for 10 years.

She was elected to the Columbia School Board in April 2008 and served until this May, when she resigned because of health issues.
